Fed: Report findings welcomed by ANU

The acting vice-chancellor of one of Australia's largest universities has welcomed
a recommended shake-up of the tertiary sector.

ANU'S Professor LAWRENCE CRAM says the review's suggestion of a regulatory body to
determine standards to maintain quality outcomes is part of a very nice package.

Professor CRAM says if students are given funding vouchers for their tertiary education
.. tertiary institutions will have to be more responsive in providing course choices.

But he says if there's strong demand for courses like business and law .. that shouldn't
be satisfied at the expense of training people to be nurses or teachers.
