Residents of the central Queensland town of Charleville have been evacuated as they
wait to see if the Warrego River bursts through a levee bank and swamps their community.

Police began evacuating residents in low-lying areas of Charleville at about 1am (AEST).

They were taken to a temporary centre at the town's racecourse.

The Queensland Department of Community Safety says the Warrego River's expected to
breach the town's levee by noon …
