"Starbucks is the greatest things to happen in the coffee business," said Jay Endres, ceo of the San Francisco-based Roastery Development Group, who sees no reason why OCS operators can't also be coffee specialists. He offered his hopes for where the coffee industry is headed during a presentation at the W/CA/NCSA joint management conference at the Sheraton Long Beach.
Starbucks' success reflects the consumer's receptiveness to quality coffee, Endres noted. Hence, it makes sense for OCS operators to seek out products that utilize the--best technology available in handling, roasting, grinding, packaging and brewing.
