Declaring that the war against drugs is "at the border, not inour cities," Mayor Daley said Tuesday he is "very disappointed" withthe Bush administration's anti-drug campaign.
Daley said that even if the city hired 10,000 additional policeofficers, it would not make a dent in the war against drugs until thefederal government beefs up border patrols to slow the influx ofdrugs into the United States.
The mayor praised William J. Bennett, the national drug controlpolicy director, at a recent joint appearance for his "Eliot Nessapproach." But Daley said Bennett must use his influence to makedrugs the U.S. Justice Department's top priority.
